To improve these stagnant areas, Jackson river bottom land will be cleared and deepened using dredges. This will allow flood waters to pass Jackson without backing up into its homes and businesses. Lakes, eleven miles long, will be created by damming the river and the dredge material will be used to form an island opposite downtown Jackson.
