Jackson Gateway

This is a view of current conditions within the Jackson reach of the Pearl flood plain.
Notice Jackson's skyline and the Highway 80 bridge in the background. The trapped water, shown in the foreground, has been declared wetlands by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. In recent times, a strong school of thought has developed which teaches that these areas are valuable and should be preserved. All modern day flood control projects are required to mitigate for loss of these wet areas. This is frequently done by creation of wetlands elsewhere, in more suitable areas.
