ANSWER TO U.S. CORPS OF ENGINEERS
CONCERN NUMBER 11

At least two sites eligible for inclusion or already listed in the National Register of Historic Places would be impacted.

The flood control lake would flood land mostly in the river bottomland. This type land is constantly being moved around by the energy in the floodwaters, and by the redeposition of sand. The reader can understand what kind of land this is by observing the tree deadened land on both sides of the I-20 bridge. Most archeological and historical places follow land where humans live. For example: The new levee system will generally follow the inner edge of the flatwood terrace. This is a very good place to look for Indian artifacts because they lived on the edge of the terraces, not in the riverbottom land.
