Two Lakes : Dreams Realized

Status of the Two Lakes Project

Sept. 2007

For the last three years, Jackson's flood control and development plan (the Two Lakes Project) has been in the hands of Jackson's three largest engineering firms, and the same government officials who are also on the Airport Parkway Commission.

The most frequent argument we hear from the officials and the engineers involved is that the Airport Parkway should not be changed because after 16 years and $29 million; the plans are finished, some Right of-Ways are acquired and the Environmental Impact Statement has been approved (the EIS was approved 7 years ago). They will also argue that the Two Lakes will not be built because the environmental impacts are too great.

This is not true! Take a look at our booklet.  October 17, 2006 Status Report

Projects like the Two Lakes have been constructed in other cities. The same Right-of-Ways purchased for the Airport Parkway will be needed for the LeFleur's Lakes.

Which do you prefer:

  • A cost-effective solution that can be completed quickly. A plan with a better highway (Three Bridges) and flood control (Two Lakes) to be backed up with a defendable Environmental Study produced locally, not by the Corps.

Or

  • Airport Parkway Bridge, an over-priced concrete highway stack that even after 16 years, full funding has not been obtained.

We hope you will vote and help decide what is best Central Mississippi.
